Subprime Lending
The large number of subprime loans created from 2005 – 2007 contributed to the recent financial crisis. We analyzed these subprime loans using data provided the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act to understand more about who created these loans and where they created them. This video demonstrates how we performed analysis to uncover:
- Subprime lenders targeted neighborhoods that are now at the epicenter of the financial crisis
- A small number of lenders originated a disproportionately high number of extremely high-risk loans, and which lenders originated them
- The regions targeted by each lender
This video also demonstrates how the heat maps published by the Center for Public Integrity were generated using Palantir Government.
