What's a normal day like for you?
9:00am - Eat leftover deep dish pizza, read the New York Times in the kitchen.

10:30am - Check on a scale test running on a server, then take a call from a client discussing details of an upcoming analyst training program.

2:00pm - Meet with other business develop associates and quality assurance team members to map out the analyst-driven usability project for the next version of Palantir.

4:00pm - Throw around a Frisbee for 10 min, then work on integrating a new external product into the Palantir platform through an open API.

6:00pm - Eat jambalaya, learn what Le Chatlier’s principle is, listen to Huey ramble about his ninja skills, and debate the merits of bailing people out of their subprime loans.

8:00pm - Wrap up my work for the day with a half dozen emails, hit the gym downstairs for a quick lift, then walk with a few coworkers to the local pub for trivia night.

What's a normal day like for you?
There are no "normal" days for me at Palantir. Unlike a typical support function, I do not have to answer the same questions over and over each and every day. Some days I get to delve deeply into the functioning of one of our many cutting-edge backend servers, and on other days my focus is on the well-designed and aesthetically pleasing presentation layer.

These forays into the technical aspects of the product are mingled with excellent conversations with my co-workers on a wide variety of topics, from the latest movie night to the effects of different diets.

Of course, I get to interact with clients who are just as intelligent, dedicated, and eclectic as my co-workers. All of which makes my "normal" day a very unusual and abnormal one.

What made you decide to join Palantir?
I'm passionate about enabling professionals to decipher complex data – particularly financial data – by using the appropriate tools. I spent three years in Lehman Brothers’ Fixed Income Analytics group, where I became obsessed with financial markets. It’s also where I recognized the tremendous (and radically increasing) need that traders, analysts and researchers have for top-notch technology – a need that’s not close to being satisfied.

I met one of Palantir’s co-founders in New York in 2005, and he convinced me to visit Palantir’s Finance team in Palo Alto, CA. I was floored by the team’s exceptional ability and positioning: their focus on building the best products, the founders' impeccable track record, and the unbounded potential for each of the two products. Palantir became my new obsession, and it is today more than ever.

Why did you drop out of your PhD to join Palantir?
Before I worked at Palantir, I was a PhD student at Stanford, studying computer science (computational game theory, to be precise.) I really liked my PhD and wanted to start a career in academia. But when I heard about the company through several of the founders whom I'd worked with at PayPal, I knew that this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I wouldn't have dropped out of my PhD to work at Google and I wouldn't have dropped out to make a better Ajax calendar app. At Palantir, however, I saw really hard, really interesting problems, and I saw that solving them would make a big difference in the world. So I took a one year leave of absence and never came back.

I have no regrets.

What's a normal day like for you?
I start my day at around 11am, and right off the bat work on the toughest problem of the day until lunch. I get really sleepy after eating lunch, so usually I take a long break, go work-out, play basketball, or just nap. I usually do the bulk of my coding after dinner, when it’s easier to be focused for continuous chunks of time.

What's a normal day like for you?
A normal day around this office is anything but what I could have ever thought to be normal. Being fairly green to office environments, I am thrilled, surprised, and sometimes even stupefied as to what a fun atmosphere this company has embraced.

It begins in the morning, waking up and actually looking forward to get to work. Throughout the course of the day I not only contribute to the testing of a cutting edge technology, but feel like my opinions and creativity have some influence in not only strategizing how to ensure quality, but also the tweaking and adjusting of the product itself.

Although some serious hours are put in throughout the day on various test assignments, creation, and planning, the free catered meals, various entertainment such as sports and video games, and the usually weekly company activities make the day fly by in the blink of an eye. Before I know it, nine o’clock rolls around, and it’s time to hit the road, go home and do it all over again. However in our case there is no fear of the "do it all over again" angst because every day brings new challenges and surprises.

How did you get introduced to Palantir?
I was introduced to Palantir through a former co-worker almost a year ago. I was happy and very comfortable in my position at the time, but I wanted to learn more about the company so I decided to come in. After meeting with some of the people here and seeing the product, I was thoroughly impressed. I knew that the time had come for me to leave my job of 7 years and join this team because I just had to be a part of this. I could not pass up the opportunity to work with some of the best in the industry, in my ideal work environment, and to work on a product that I believed in again.
